Humanize My Hoodie is about more than a single moment—it’s a movement rooted in building momentum for racial and social justice. It is a movement nurtured by connections, relationships, and actions. We help shift racist perceptions and mindsets, while also supporting many initiatives at the grassroots level. Our hoodies make powerful statements that debunks racist myths, invites conversations, and empowers Black youth and other marginalized communities to be seen, heard, and valued.
We do more than only sell hoodies, because we know our communities face systemic barriers which take collective efforts to eradicate. Empowering Youth:
Many Black, Indigenous, and other youth of color cannot purchase our hoodies, which serve as reminders that they need to be humanized, because of the economic impact of racism. Your sponsorship helps youth become change agents and feel empowered.
Homework Help for Underserved School-Aged Learners:
The Humanize My Hoodie Homework Hotline is an online tutoring network for K-12 students led by the Hubbard Scholars at the University of Iowa. The young men will tutor K-12 students. Your donation will help us expand the program and also provided our youth creative avenues for culturally sensitive learning and career development.
Educators As Allies:
Our teachers and other educators are working tirelessly to meet the needs of their students but many don’t have the training or tools to address systemic racism. Currently, BIPOC students make up more than half of the population in U.S. public schools, yet about 80 percent of teachers are white and only a mere 2 percent are black men. Your donations help supplement the cost of our Educators as Allies workshops so our youth can excel in school.
Art As Resistance:
We have invested in a number of young Black and Indigenous artists to continue to hone their talents and tell their stories. Your support helps us provide materials, professional development opportunities, art studio time, and pro bono consulting. Black Liberation Center:
Youth in our community need spaces where they can show up authentically and not worry about racism. This space will improve social, cultural, and educational opportunities for young black, brown, and indigenous artists at a time when everyone needs to better understand systemic racism and how we, as a community, can work together to create a better present and future for all races through learning and leading.
Crisis Support:
Whether supporting impacted members of communities after senseless violence, protesters who are unfairly targeted, or other under-resourced people during times of crisis, Humanize My Hoodie provides necessary interventions. We provide emergency kits to people on the ground and assist with food aid and medical supplies
